The Pakistan Association for the Advancement of science is the oldest and premier organization which was founded soon after establishment of Pakistan in 1947 and within its means (including Financial Resources) has contributed to a significant extant in development and promotion of science. Pakistan comprised of two wings i.e. West Pakistan and East Pakistan. Taking into consideration the long Distance between the two wings, two regional branches were established for frequent meetings of the scientists, one at Lahore(west wing) and the other at Dacca(the east wing) on 10th April 1948. With the separation of eastern wing (now Bangladesh) in 1972 regional branches were discontinued. Since its foundation it took one year to plan its activities namely holding of Science Conference and Publication of Journals. During the last 68 years the association has built up a sizeable library which pertains journals received from abroad and from within the country and present ranks as one of the best science reference library in the country. In the spirit of the limited recourses, the Association has contributed signification towards promotion and development of science in Pakistan during the last 68 years of its existence.
